No Interruptions for the State of Tennessee

Harlan Electric was selected as the prime contractor to provide new replacement switchgear and back-feed all equipment throughout the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower.  Harlan was responsible for all aspects of the project which included enlarging the room, building a new wall, entry doorway and certain concrete demolition and install.    Downtime was required to be limited to preplanned weekend outages. The concrete removal operation required noise abatement and planning for demolition activities high priority.  This building houses significant State of Tennessee government offices making security, coordination, and communication of all activities of utmost importance.

The existing 50+ year old main switchgear was replaced with new 4160V, 1200 amp equipment.  Elapsed time from power off of old gear to new gear back online was less than 48 hours. There were a total of 71, 5kv terminations installed and all passed 3rd party testing on first pass with no disruption to the occupant’s operations.  The age of the building provided a significant challenge.  The gear sections height was only a single inch shorter than the elevator cab height.  The team devised a way of rolling the gear on and off the elevator on ¼ inch steel rods . . . leaving 1/2 inch clearance from the top of the cab.

THE TEDDY’S: 2022 Phalcon Awards & Celebration

Almost 450 company employees, spouses and guests gathered on June 4th at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC to celebrate our collective history, accomplishments and partnership at the 2022 Phalcon Teddy Awards. After opening comments from the Phalcon partners – Mike, Marcus and Ed – and a video highlighting the history of Phalcon, gifts of appreciation were presented to Ted McPhee, founder of McPhee Electric and to Joe Richards, founder of Richards Electric.

“We owe so much to people like Ted and Joe for their leadership and vision. We stand on the shoulders of these industry giants’ as we move in to the future and cherish the legacy that they have provided us with ‘Grit & Gratitude.'” says Mike McPhee, CEO of Phalcon.

The Teddy Awards have been an annual tradition that started at McPhee more than 20 years ago and has been expanded over the years to now include the entire Phalcon family. The annual Phalcon Teddy’s Awards celebration takes time to reflect on our collective accomplishments and to honor and thank those who have contributed to our successes. The night was followed by dinner, dancing and plenty of time for Phalcon team members across the operating company locations to enjoy conversation and time together.

Franklin Noon Rotary Club partners with city of Franklin to power Harlinsdale

In a few weeks, the Park at Harlinsdale will be full of barbecue teams working to present their culinary expertise in the Great Americana BBQ Festival.

This year, the teams will not need to rely solely on their generators for power as the Franklin Noon Rotary Club in partnership with the city of Franklin introduced a new power source that will be available for all the teams to tap into.

The 1200-amp power grid, located on the north side of Harlinsdale park, will be able to provide power for all of the competing teams.

The Franklin Noon Rotary donated the money for the project from funds raised by the Great Americana BBQ Festival and the Franklin Rodeo through its foundation.

“Our club had a vision, our BBQ society wanted to do something to enhance the park,” said Franklin Noon Rotary President Patrick Baggett. “Our club wants to be a good citizen, we want to give back to the community and this was something that the park needed.”

The club partnered with Harlan Electric, Middle Tennessee Electric, EUTAW Construction, and the Friends of Franklin Parks to install the power panels. “This was a group effort,” said Paul Collins of the Franklin Noon Rotary. “The three panels will replace a lot of generators.”

Harlan Electric Toy Drive

Harlan’s Administrative offices decided to collect toys for the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Toy Drive/Christmas Basket program this season. The toy drive is part of the Metro Police Department’s 56th annual Christmas Basket Program, a charity drive designed to collect toys and other items for area families in need of assistance during the holidays. This program has served our community well for 56 years and we wanted to help make it a success again this year.

Harlan Participates in Nashville’s “Preds Pride Day”

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry proclaimed June 5th 2017 as “Preds Pride Day” as the hometown team continued their battle for the Stanley Cup.  Harlan sported their Nashville Predators gear to work in honor of the Nashville Mayor’s declaration of Pred’s Pride Day!

“We want to see Nashvillians of all ages wearing gold to celebrate this momentous time in our city’s history as the Predators skate towards the Stanley Cup,” said Mayor Barry. “Let’s show Pittsburgh and the rest of the world that we are all Smashvillians on Preds Pride Day.”
