It’s grit. Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals, grit is having determination, grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working hard to make that future a reality. This Safety Week all crews and teams across Phalcon gathered to observe our focus topic, QSP – Quality, Safety and Productivity. As we learned, each of the elements are integrated and demand equal attention to deliver industry leading results. This approach ensures that we are returning home to our families in equal, or better condition. In conjunction with this approach, we are also ensuring that the teammate to your left and the teammate to your right return home in the same or better condition than they showed up in that morning. To maintain and achieve Quality Safety and Productivity every day, we must have determination, stick with our future goals each day, and work hard to make our goals a reality. We must emulate grit and follow the five characteristics of grit: Courage: Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. Courage is needed to always doing the right thing even when easier options exist while following your vision no matter the opinions of others even if your vision is the unpopular opinion. Conscientiousness: Being thorough, careful, and vigilant. Conscientiousness implies a desire to perform a task while remaining efficient and organized but also not resting until the job is completed with the highest level of safety and top-quality results. Perseverance: Perseverance is not giving up. It is a symbol of tenacity and effort required to complete a task and keep Doing it until the end, no matter the difficulty or possibility of failure. Resilience: Resilience is the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties. . In doing so, we emerge from the most difficult challenges stronger, wiser and with more confidence when faced with the next difficult challenges. Passion: Passion creates excellence when mediocrity will do. Passionate people have a deep sense of purpose and are selfless in their actions and are driven by goals, results and won’t let anything stop them. A “can do” attitude and the unwillingness to take no for an answer and are enthusiastic about the success of others. As we conclude Phalcon’s 2023 Safety Day, we take this time to show gratitude and appreciation to all who put on their PPE, tools, and display commitment to each characteristic of grit to complete the task and project with industry leading quality and safety.
