Team McPhee, led by President Marcus McPhee, took part in the 34th Annual Foodshare Walk Against Hunger on Sunday, May 7th at the Liam E. McGee Memorial Park on The Hartford’s campus in Hartford, CT.
Though a chilly and cloudy day for spring, 15 members of Team McPhee walked along with 3,500+ participants to raise awareness and raise funds for Foodshare. Statistics were shared at the event that 1 out of 8 people in Connecticut are hungry.
McPhee has been a longtime supporter of Foodshare as we believe no one should go without. Through our annual holiday charity donations McPhee and it’s sister Phalcon organizations have donated over $500,000 to local and national charities serving those special populations that require assistance.
Supporting Foodshare supports self-sufficiency, self-respect and health. Foodshare distributes millions of meals worth of food each year, including millions of pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. Additionally, they develop programs to aid people in finding work, managing budgets, and bring together local resources to combat the underlying causes of hunger.
About Foodshare
The Foodshare Walk Against Hunger began in 1983 and is now the largest anti-hunger event in the state of Connecticut. Foodshare is our region’s foodbank and serves Hartford and Tolland counties. In 2016, Foodshare distributed food for 11.5 million meals but that was not enough to meet the growing demand. 137,000 people in these two counties are hungry, the majority of whom are children and seniors. Foodshare’s goals are to increase the amount of food available coupled with bringing down the need for food by helping people find greater stability.
